Nikita

Breed: German Shepherd
Age: 5 years
Size: 70 lbs (needs to lose about 10 lbs)
Health: Good, spayed

Ideal Match: A shepherd loving home looking for a loyal companion

Personality:

Nikita is the sweetest! She came to us as an owner surrender due to a change in her family’s situation.  In her previous home, she lived with adult humans and a male dog, but no children.  Nikita was used to going for occasional walks, playing fetch and cuddling with her humans which she liked very much. She is crate trained and knows some basic commands.  According to her previous owner, she has a strong prey drive and should not be with small dogs or cats.

In her time with us, we have noted her to walk nicely on a leash and be respectful at thresholds.  She needs slow and appropriate introductions to other dogs.  Nikita can be anxious when placed in situations that are unfamiliar to her and she will often exhibit this by trying to get underneath things, including her handler’s legs.  It is important at these times that the human not coddle her but take charge of the situation and guide her with confidence.

While she has not lived with children, we have seen her interact with older children and she seems comfortable.  We would recommend If there are children in her new home, they be 12+.
