Orion came to us from the Carlsbad shelter where he found himself dumped with his brother Kozmos, both at only 6 weeks old.  Both were determined to have severe eye infections, and the shelter veterinary staff were not set up to treat such serious medical conditions.  So, in true LCAL spirit, we accepted them and immediately had them seen by our veterinary staff.  Orion is blind in both eyes, but that doesn’t seem to stop him from being the most fun-loving, sweet and playful Dobie pup!  He follows sounds .. and will lean or sit on your feet/legs to understand where you’re at and when you’re moving.  We have been teaching him verbal cues to let him know to stay close or slow down so he doesn’t run into things.  He is also scheduled for a visit with the veterinary eye specialists at UC Davis in hopes we can find a way to help his vision improve.  Kozmos was recently adopted, and now it’s Orion’s turn.  As of mid February, Orion is now approx 14 weeks old.  He would LOVE to find a home that understands his special needs and perhaps has another young(ish) dog for him to use as a seeing dog.  Interested in meeting Orion, contact “info@lastchanceatlife.org”  Adoption applications are available online here on our website.
