We couldn’t accomplish what we do if it weren’t for our volunteers. They are the grease that keeps the wheel moving and we are so grateful for the time and effort they give each and every day. We want to use our newsletter as an opportunity to showcase our wonderful volunteers and say THANK YOU in a very public way so here is our first “THANK YOU” to Cindy Wilson.
“When the world seems cruel and bleak I find hope and inspiration by the love and commitment of so many to fellow creatures in need” says Cindy when speaking of her time as an LCAL volunteer. She came to Last Chance at Life in September of 2016 and has filled needs in the areas of dog walking, maintaining the Google volunteer schedule, training new volunteers and closing the kennels.
Cindy is currently foster mom extraordinaire as she is caring for Jacob, our beautiful shepherd/husky mix with the striking ice blue eyes…..and diabetes. We were struggling getting his disease under control and Cindy saw a need. She raised her hand and offered to help. Under her watchful eye and disciplined attention to detail, he has gone from a skeletal twenty-five pound being to an energy-filled, robust 60 pound dog looking for his forever home.
Home time is shared with her husband, Terry and their “household of misfits” (her words, not ours). There is Toby, the 13 y/o Beagle who still runs 2 ½ miles and walks 2 ½ miles every Sat. and Sun. Hanna, a 11 y/o Shitzu/Chihuahua, who is now the queen of the castle but began life as a pound puppy with parvo slated for euthanasia. Last but not least is Baby Huey, a 1 ½ y/o Staffie/Border Collie mix who constantly behaves like an unruly teenager and gets outrun by Toby every weekend. Daughter Kindra is a therapist in Portland, OR which gives Cindy and Terry a reason to head north now and then.
In her “spare time”, Cindy enjoys reading, doing yoga, cycling, walking, running, hiking, weight lifting and camping. It is a good thing she is retired from her 20 year career in criminal justice so she has time for everything!
When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering, Cindy replied –“I admire LCAL’s commitment to those animals that may be overlooked by other rescue organizations and the dedication to do whatever it takes to help them. I am always amazed by the transformations from scared, sick, injured to healthy, happy confident dogs. Nothing brings more joy than watching them go off to their forever homes.”
THANK YOU Cindy!!
