JANUARY 2015 â HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome to our new-and-improved website and our first-ever BLOG page!
LCAL Rescue is going into its fifth year of saving lives of dogs, birds, cats, and even some guinea pigs! Can you believe it? For some of us here, it feels like a fast-moving blur of activity â sort of like Noahâs Ark powered by super powerful speedboat engines!
For our fans who have been wondering why weâve been a bit off the Internet grid the past year, itâs because weâve taken our rapid growth spurts and regrouped into more of what we hope to be a well-oiled machine, providing you with more current, streamlined information on our groupâs activities; most important, a focus on the animalsâ lives we impact ⦠and how YOU can help.
Last Chance at Life was originally started from a small, private rescue called Boxers N Birds Animal Rescue,â which has been around for many, many years. Our founding member, Lisa Hamilton, has spent her entire career saving animals through her hospital administrator role at a local animal hospital. She had (and still has) a special love for exotic birds and the Boxer breed, hence the name of Boxers N Birds Animal Rescue.
After her hospital location acquired a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in *2010, she had a vision to use the old facility as a place to grow her rescue which would allow the rescue to help save more animals.
In *2010, the BBAR team applied for nonprofit status with the IRS and the State of California, at which point the rescue was growing in volunteers — we were taking in all breeds of dogs, cats, and birds. Our focus continued to help the animals with serious medical needs, the injured and ill, the elderly, the behaviorally broken, and the local animals in shelters that faced euthanasia for medical, behavioral, or space issues. We truly became the animalsâ last chance at life, and that is how our new name came about.
From a small group of 4-5 people with a vision of saving animals to a growing group of 40-50 volunteers, LCAL Rescue is now a full-fledged, 501(c)3 nonprofit rescue group. GuideStar verified/EIN 45-4931153 We are also going into our third year of operating the Last Chance at Life Thrift Store, which operates to assist the rescue by selling gently used donated items to the general public â furniture, clothing, appliances, household items, and much more.
We are excited to have our new website up and running, and we look forward to providing educational, informative, and heart-warming stories for you on our blog page. Be sure to sign up to follow our pages and posts so that youâll be up-to-date with our activities.
Itâs going to be a GREAT 2015!
