Volunteer Application

Thank you for your interest in helping the dogs of LCAL! There are three main ways to help our rescue: as a long-term or short-term foster, as a thrift store volunteer, or as a rescue volunteer.

1. Fostering. We are a foster-based rescue, so foster families are the heroes that allow us to help dogs in need. Short-term fosters that can occasionally help dog-sit when a foster is out of town also are a big help. We provide all the food and supplies for our fosters—you just provide the love and teach them about home life. If you are interested in fostering, please fill out the Foster Application instead of this Volunteer Application.

2. Thrift Store Volunteer. The thrift store is the primary reason we are able to save the dogs that we do, so helping there has a huge impact for our rescue. Thrift store volunteers help with sorting, pricing, and more. Thrift store volunteers complete a video orientation and quiz, then one training at the store. The volunteer commitment is minimum 4 hours a month.

3. Rescue Volunteers. Our Rescue Volunteers receive emails with volunteer opportunities such as for transport or events, and they sign up when their schedule permits. Rescue Volunteers can also help in a specific capacity such as photography or social media. These volunteers complete basic orientation, and then are added to our volunteer list.

  • Personal

Please Note: 15 and younger can volunteer at our thrift store if an adult or guardian volunteers with them. The adult must fill out a separate application. 16-17 can volunteer at our thrift store independently. Volunteers must be 18+ to transport our dogs or handle them at events.
  • Note: The adult or guardian who volunteers with you must also submit a Volunteer Application.
  • Emergency Contact

  • Volunteer Interests

  • We have some age restrictions for the volunteers at LCAL. Dog handlers and transporters must be 18+. We sometimes have online rescue tasks that we need help with, like updating fliers or helping at the booth or with photography at an event. If something like this would interest you, please let me know!
  • Note: Thrift Store Volunteers must commit to minimum 4 hours a month during our store hours (Mon-Sat, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Rescue Volunteers will be added to a mailing list to hear about volunteer opportunities as they arise, so they can help as needed according to their availability. They can also arrange with our volunteer coordinator to help in a specific capacity such as social media or photography.
  • Example: Plumbing/electric/handyman knowledge, photography, videography, graphic design, deep cleaning, networking, website/Wordpress experience, Newsletter experience, Grant-writing, etc.
